road trip and how my studio process works

My wife and I returned a few days ago from a short road trip. We drove from St. Louis to Colorado Springs Colorado. The weather was unfortunate. By unfortunate I mean hot and really windy. We drove through Kansas on our way. Anyway Kansas and parts of Colorado are flat and the boring landscape give one time to think and talk about stuff. We talked about art and our collaboration and listened to music. I also rambled nonsense, drank monsters and ate junk food.

We stayed in Airbnb’s and motels. In dodge city Iowa we stayed in a Hampton Inn next to a casino. We walked behind the casing and looked at the parking lot and took pictures of the parking lot. So?  Read on.

For me these over flow spaces like parking lots behind casinos or whatever hellscape suburbia has provided me to look at invoke soundscapes for me. The soundscapes are visual and end up existing as digital pictures in my phone. These digital pictures give way a film in my mind. This film ends up as a sound piece.

More on my process later.

I failed to tell the story. I had a revelation while field recording.
